Errores Comunes en Inglés: No usar "a/an" antes de tu ocupación

Hey this is Joel from http://www.InglesAvanzado.org. In this lesson, I’m going to talk about a common mistake that a lot of Spanish speakers make when they’re talking in English.

The mistake is not to use the article “a” or “an” before their job or career. Now, in Spanish, that’s normal. You say: “Soy abogado... Soy médico...” But in English, you need to say: “I’m a doctor... I’m a lawyer...”

Or if you’re talking about somebody else: “He’s a doctor... He’s a lawyer...”

Now, if the profession begins with a vowel sound, you use the word “an.” “He’s an engineer,” for example.

“She’s a nurse.”

“I’m a policeman.”

“My dad’s a lawyer.”

Well, I hope that this was helpful for you. So just remember, use the word “a” or “an” before a job or career. You can visit http://www.InglesAvanzado.org for more lessons, my mp3 course for download, and native English speakers who you can practice with and get corrections.

Thanks for watching.
