Errores Comunes en Inglés: "Childrens" en vez de "children"

Hey this is Joel from In this lesson, I want to talk about a common mistake that a lot of English students make.

The mistake is saying, “childrens” with an “s” at the end. That’s because the word “children” is already plural.

“Children” is for 2 or more and “child” is for 1.

So, I can say, “I have one child.” Or, “I have two children.”

Some more examples:

“She has one child.”

“They have three children.”

“The children are playing outside.”

“My child is at home.”

Now, there is an exception when you can have an “s” at the end of children. That’s when you’re making it possessive - “Children’s.”

So, I can say, “The children’s toys are outside.” A less fluent way to say that would be, “The toys of the children are outside” – It’s possessive. “Los juguetes de los niños están afuera” – “The children’s toys are outside.”

Alright, well I hope that this lesson was useful for you and that you won’t make this mistake when you’re practicing your English.
